Patient needs don’t end when they leave the doctor’s office, so neither should the care they receive. When the COVID-19 outbreak began, our Patient Advocates and clinical teams began working to make sure that patients had access to everything they needed: food, financial assistance, prescriptions, medical supplies, mental health programs, and workforce navigation. Nevertheless, many team members began to see the burdens COVID-19 was placing on families and businesses– sickness, disconnection, and lost income.

One Proactive MD team in South Carolina responded to this need by collecting nonperishable food items to support struggling food banks in their community. Their grassroots effort became a company-wide competition, with nearly two-dozen teams across the country collecting thousands and thousands of non-perishable items for their food banks, in addition to scarce goods like diapers, disinfectant wipes, and hand sanitizer for community centers. With so many participating, Proactive MD was thrilled to match dollars for items collected.

Care Beyond the Walls means more to us than care coordination, system navigation, or resource acquisition. While these things are essential to providing quality healthcare, the heart of Proactive MD is deeper: we aim to restore hope to healthcare by fighting for every patient as we would our own family members. We are grateful to all our frontline clinicians who live this mission every day, going above and beyond primary care and helping to bring restoration and healing to their communities.
